Airlines have been hit by travel cancellations, closure of tourist spots, withdrawal of package tours and cancellation of affected routes. That has hit airline industry in a big way and that is already visible in the airline number. Since airline companies have already started demanding a rescue package, the government of India is planning a rescue package worth $1.6 billion for the aviation sector. It has already been battered by the Coronavirus outbreak which has forced countries to close borders and brought air travel to a near-halt. The Finance Ministry could consider measures like temporary suspension of most taxes levied on the aviation sector, deferment of aviation fuel tax and other concessions to reduce the cost and simplify ease of operations.
