Maharashtra state has extended the lockdown in the state till July 31 on the back of a rapid accretion in the number of cases in the state. The announcement was made by the Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray. Movement for non-essential activities will be restricted within neighbourhoods in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, to avoid the pandemic spreading.

For all the businesses and economic establishments, the mandatory precautions of wearing masks, social distancing and personal hygiene will continue to apply as before. Restrictions on non-essential travel will also continue. However, the government has allowed more relaxation for the rest of the state, although Mumbai will continue to observe restrictions.

Bus service within the state will be allowed with maximum 50% capacity combined with physical distancing and sanitation measures. The government has continued to insist on work-from-home or WFH as a better option. Private offices will have to continue to operate with just about 10% manpower. Total cases in Maharashtra stands at over 165,000.
