HT Media reported net loss of Rs.61.59 crore for the Mar-20 quarter, representing a widening of nearly 3 times compared to the corresponding quarter last year. Revenues from operations were also down 13.64% at Rs.467 crore during the Mar-20 quarter. The pandemic intensified the challenges faced by HT Media in the metros.

For a long time, advertising has been the mainstay of HT Media’s newspaper and radio businesses and that saw a sharp fall in the Mar-20 quarter as companies cut down on all forms of non-core spending. However, the OPM of the company did improve in the Mar-20 quarter on account of favourable newsprint prices and a focus on cost control

The big boost to Operating Profits came from the 20% fall in total expenses to Rs.504 crore in the Mar-20 quarter. Revenues from printing and publishing of newspapers and periodicals were down 14.74% at Rs.403 crore. Revenues from radio broadcast and entertainment was at 10.8% lower at Rs.41.97 crore. Digital revenues were 14% up.
