During the week, the government announced a series of opening up for the FDI into various sectors and allowed up to 26% in digital media. Apple has a very strong presence in China but has a very minimal presence in the Indian economy. Apple has been open to the idea of outsourcing a large part of its work to India subject to the Indian government throwing in concessions and incentives for the company.

While the government had broadly agreed to most of the concessions sought by Apple, they were still worried about the FDI regime and the current e-commerce policy. With the government relaxing on both fronts, there is the option for companies like Apple to enter and manufacture out of India in a big way. However, Indian infrastructure is still short of Asian standards but if the government can back it up with good policy then Apple should be excited about entering India and manufacturing here in a big way.
