GDP growth figure for the Mar-20 quarter and for the full year is expected to be announced on the last working day of May. Preliminary estimates are flying in thick and fast from various analysts, economists and rating agencies. ICRA has pegged Q4 GDP growth at 1.9% and full year growth at 4.3% for FY20. GDP had grown at 6.1% for the fiscal year 2018-19. However, the economy went into lockdown only from 24 March so the impact would be limited in the March quarter. However, estimates are a lot more pessimistic for the next fiscal year FY21. While Q1 is expected to be deep in the negative due to a virtual shutdown, Q2 will also see negative growth due to lag effect. However, economy is expected to recover in the third and fourth quarters of FY21. Even full year GDP growth for FY21 could be negative for the first time post independence.
