Bharti Airtel is in the news due to its proposal to Vodafone Idea to create fibre joint venture similar to their co-owned tower company, Indus Towers. During a news report, Sunil Mittal, the chairman of Bharti Airtel stated that Vodafone Idea gave a warm response on this.
Up to 246,000 kilometers of fibre assets, Bharti Airtel is planning to set up Telesonic Networks Ltd to the house. On the same lines, Bharti Airtel has proposed Vodafone Idea to come and join the fibre company. This joint venture would be a two-party joint venture. The proposal also says that if Vodafone Idea brings its fiber assets, then they will get appropriate shares.
This joint venture between Airtel and Vodafone-Idea is intended to function as a team in the optical fibre space, which will increasingly become the backbone of future network expansion. Also, this partnership will help Airtel save costs by cutting down on duplication in the expansion of the fibre network.
