You would perhaps recollect that Trump and Xi Jinping had met at Osaka during the G-20 Summit where they had agreed to enter into a temporary ceasefire on the trade war. While some progress has been seen on this front, the war of words is still on. For example, recently Trump had expressed concerns that China had not done enough for helping the US increase its agricultural products exports to China. The US is a major exporter of beef and soybeans to China. Apparently, the agreement was that the US would freeze imposition of additional tariffs on Chinese imports subject to China expanding its import of US agri products. Trump has complained that China had not done enough on this front.
