All Indian citizens irrespective of their caste, community, religion, etc. have to pay taxes in India.

The only exception to the rule is those individuals who have an annual income below the threshold level decided by the government or income from exempted sources such as agriculture.

The threshold limit below which one doesn’t need to pay any tax in India is Rs. 5 lakh. This means any individual earning an annual income up to Rs 5 lakh won’t have to pay any tax in India.
