In a day of dubious records, India reported 15,915 Coronavirus cases on Saturday 20 June, making it the worst single day since the pandemic set in. This spike has taken the total afflictions in India to 411,727. Maharashtra and Delhi recorded the biggest jump in cases on Friday and Saturday and Chennai is already under lockdown till end of June.

The sharp spike in the number of Coronavirus can be explained by the phased opening up of the economy in the last 2 weeks. Greater travel and exposure to crowds in the non-containment zones is taking its toll on people. Globally, the pandemic has claimed 466,684 lives so far with as many as 8.91 million afflictions till date.
