On 20 July, the Supreme Court heard the AGR case pertaining to telecom companies but reserved its order on granting more time to the telecom operators to pay their dues. It may be recollected that Bharti and Vodafone idea need to pay up the bulk of their AGR dues to the DOT. However, they had asked for an extended period of 10 years to pay AGR dues.

On the one hand, the Supreme Court has made it clear that it will not allow the government or the operators to recalculate the AGR dues and the existing amounts will have to be taken as the final figure. Both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have disputed the amount of AGR. The Court will subsequently give its judgment on extension of time to pay.l
