Tata Consumer Products, the new name of Tata Global, plans to emerge as a full-fledged FMCG company. That was the larger plan when the food and beverages business of Tata Global was merged with the salt business of Tata Chemicals. It may be recollected that TCPL was formed by the merger of Tata Global Beverages and the salt business of Tata Chemicals.

The merged entity plans to strengthen its distribution and marketing channels with a view to making its products available across India. Post the merger, Tata Chemicals will only focus on the soda ash and the agrochemicals segment of the market as salt will now go entirely into Tata Consumer Products to better reflect the product and marketing challenges.

TCPL will create a huge portfolio of FMCG products to emerge as an integrated food and beverages company. This includes the tea, coffee, Starbucks and salt business and will be adding a plethora of food and beverage products to its portfolio to broaden it. Eventually, they will be looking to compete with Hindustan Unilever in the FMCG space in India.
