These are the bonds issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on behalf of the Government of India and are available in the multiples of gram(s) of gold with the basic unit of 1 gram. The tenure of these bonds is eight years, with an exit option after the fifth year. The minimum permissible investment will be 1 gram of gold and the maximum allowed investment shall be 4 kg for Individuals and HUFs, and a massive 20 kg for Trusts and other similar entities.

The Sovereign Gold bond scheme is open for subscription from December 28, 2020, till January 1, 2021. RBI has fixed the issue price of the series at Rs 5,000 per gram. This value of the bond is based on a simple average closing price for gold of 999 purity on the last three business days of the week, right before the subscription period, that is, December 22-24. RBI further stated that in consultation with the central bank, it has also decided to offer a discount of Rs 50 per gram on the nominal value to investors who apply online and make payment using digital mode.

Where to buy it?
These bonds shall be available with banks (except Small Finance and Payment Banks), Stock Holding Corporation of India, Recognised stock exchanges (NSE and BSE), and designated post offices.
