The Nifty and the Sensex are around the key resistance points. The Sensex has crossed the psychological mark of 40,000 but only just crossed. The Nifty is still slightly below the 12,000 mark and that may remain the key resistance for the markets at these levels. How effectively these levels are breached and the indices sustain above the levels will determine the movement of the markets in the coming week. Here are the major cues for the week.

a) FII flows will be a key factor. The FIIs infused nearly Rs.16,500 crore into debt and equity in the month of October. This has helped the rupee to strengthen and that is likely to keep the markets in good mood.

b) Yes bank could be the stock on the radar of most traders. Over the weekend the bank had announced a likely stake sale during the week. However, nothing concrete has come through. If the stock can get a good deal, it will be positive for banking sentiments overall.

c) Similarly, Zee will be another stock that will hold the key to the markets. It has hinted at a second tranche of stake sale but mutual funds to whom Zee owes funds are yet not buying the argument and would like to see concrete evidence. If Zee can give a more concrete output in the market it can turn sentiments.

d) There are some big results scheduled during the week and they include HDFC, MRPL, HT Media, BEL, IOB and KRBL. These will determine the colour of the profits and HDFC could be the key to sentiments in financials.

e) The markets will also be observing progress on the global front like the outcome of the RCEP talks in Thailand, progress on the trade talks and next steps on the UK elections and BREXIT.

The key data points like auto numbers, PMI manufacturing and the PMI services will also be key data points during the week.
