With a valuation of $20.2 billion, HDFC Bank retained its top position as the country’s most valuable brand for the seventh straight year. HDFC Bank was followed closely by Life Insurance Corporation and then by TCS.

The overall brand value of the top brands fell by 6% which could be attributed to the pandemic. This was largely driven by a fall in the brand value of banks and automotive companies. There were five new entrants in the list.

During the year, Reliance Retail doubled its brand value to become the fastest value gainer this year. The Reliance Retail brand was valued at $2.3 billion and ranked at 23rd. More than half the brands saw a fall in brand value.

The pivot to digital led to retail and telcos contributing in a big way to brand value. The value gain was due to specific sectors gaining from the lockdown and the big digital shift. During the year, Flipkart made its debut at eighth position with brand value of $6.5 billion.

Among the other big brand value gainers; D-Mart saw its brand value gain by 38%, Maggi grow its brand value by 46% and Asian Paints growing its brand value by 14%.
