Yes, tradition was to present the Union Budget on the last day of February every year. But the Narendra Modi-led government presented last year’s budget on February 1 instead of 28/29 February as it used to done for past many years.

In fact, that’s not the only tradition the government broke as it also did away with presenting the Railway Budget. Instead it merged the Railway Budget with the Union Budget, breaking away from a 92-year old Victorian tradition.
