Yes you are absolutely. The Drug Controller General of India or DCGI, which is the regulatory authority for new drugs and vaccines in India, has finally approved 2 vaccines. Both are meant for emergency use authorization or EUA in its fight against COVID. That means; this approval is only meant for the war against COVID and for no other purpose.

The first vaccine approved is Covishield, which was designed and discovered by AstraZeneca PLC in collaboration with Oxford Research of the UK. In India, this vaccine will be manufactured and marketed by Serum Institute of Pune. Serum will predominantly cover India and a number of other Asian and other countries, including the WHO.

The second vaccine Covaxin is vaccine that was fully developed indigenously by Bharat Biotech, based out of Hyderabad. In fact, Bharat Biotech has developed the Covaxin in association with the Indian Council for Medical Research or ICMR as well as the National Institute of Virology based out of Pune.

The Indian government plans to cover nearly 30 crore people for the vaccine inoculation drive in the first round with health workers and frontline staff being first priority. This approval was based on the recommendations by the Subject Expert Committee. UK and Argentina have approved the Covishield and Serum has already stockpiled 5 crore vaccines.
