Johnson and Johnson of the US initiated talks with the Indian government to start clinical trials of its single-shot COVID-19 vaccine in India. India is struggling with vaccine supplies as its current infrastructure has been struggling to handle the massive logistical exercise. J&J already has a manufacturing partner, Biological E, based out of Hyderabad and the company had earlier indicated that J&J was looking to produce 500 million doses from its facility.

The advantage is that J&J vaccine would remain stable at 2-8 degree Celsius for up to three months and that will be a big value edge for India. J&J will also ship such vaccines using the current cold storage facilities that it already has. Apart from J&J, Sputnik-V of Russia is also in talks with the Indian government for the vaccine approval. J&J’s vaccine, Ad26.COV2.S, developed by its Janssen arm has got emergency use authorisation from the US FDA.
