One of the key features of organized markets is an auction platform and the existence of drying yards. However, only 2/3rd of the markets has covered and open auction platforms while only 1/4th of the markets have common drying yards. Cold storage units which are key to the longevity of perishables, exists only in a tenth of these markets while grading facilities are there only in 1/3rd of the markets. Even basic facilities like electronic weigh bridges are there in only a handful of markets. This lack of infrastructure becomes a major irritant for the growth of agricultural markets.
