That is absolutely correct. The Indian government blocked 118 more mobile applications, including PUBG, to protect the sovereignty of India. Some of the popular apps banned include Cut Cut, Baidu, PUBG, Pitu, Cyber Hunter, Chess Rush, War Path, Amour, APUS, Ulike, Tan Tan, Alipay, Youku, Rules of Survival etc.

Some of the apps belong to the big 3 technology companies in China like Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu. The IT Ministry invoked its powers under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act to ban these apps being used in India.

According to the Ministry, these apps were allegedly engaged in activities prejudicial to the sovereignty interests of India. The Ministry had received various complaints pertaining to misuse of a number of mobile apps in stealing confidential information out of India.

There has crescendo of public opinion building up against such apps especially in the light of the flagrant violations by China on the LAC border with India. The lobbies have also called for strict action against Apps that harm India’s sovereignty.
