On 24 February, the union cabinet approved production-linked incentive scheme for IT hardware products including laptops, tablets, personal computers and servers. The total PLI outlay for this sector would be Rs.7,350 crore over 4 years. After the initial success of PLI for mobile phone handsets and components, the government has become a lot more aggressive about the application of the scheme on a bigger scale.
Over next 4 years, this PLI scheme will lead to total production of Rs.326,000 crore and boost domestic value addition in IT hardware from 5% to 25%. It will also invite fresh global investments of Rs.2700 crore. PLI scheme was also announced for telecom and networking products by the government recently.
