There appears to definitely be some positive traction as far as telecom subscription numbers for the month of July are concerned, as per recent TRAI reports. After a gap of 5 months, telecom subscription data put out by TRAI finally showed some positive signals.

The total volume of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1160 million in Jun-20 to 1164 million in Jul-20; an increase of 4 million new customers. While that is a good signal, the entire growth was accounted for by wireless subscribers across 2G, 3G and 4G.

In the month of Jul-20, Vodafone Idea or Vi reported subscriber losses to the tune of 3.7 million subscribers. However, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio added 3.2 million and 3.5 million subscribers respectively making the most of Vodafone’s loss in market share.

Jio crossed 40 crore subscribers for the first time, making it the first telecom company in India to do so. Jio already leads the wireless market with 35% share while Airtel has 27.9% and Vodafone 26.3%. Jio actually has grown through lateral client movement and also through deeper market penetration.
