Shifting entirely to India is unlikely as Apple would also prefer multi spread of operations but it has started manufacture of I-Phone 11 at the Foxconn plant in Chennai. Apple is also exploring the possibility of making I-Phone SE units at its plant near Bengaluru. Apple may look to expand production and export the device from India, reducing China reliance.

For Apple, manufacturing the phones in saves 22% import duty. Apple is currently engaging localized manufacturing units in India to avail the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme announced by the government of India. While this could be a major boost for the Make in India initiative, it also gives India a major foothold in manufacturing.
