FII outflows in April are really nothing compared to March, which saw the worst outflows in equity and debt historically. FPI outflows in April 2020 stood at Rs.12,650 crore so far. FPIs pulled out Rs.3808 crore from equities and another Rs.8842 crore from debt. The sharp cut in repo rates last month and the liquidity infusion has kept global bond investors wary of Indian paper. However, the equity situation appears to be a lot more neutral this month. In the month of March, FPIs withdrew close Rs.120,000 crore from equity and debt put together due to the impact of the COVID-19 and the spate of lockdowns. In fact, FPIs have been net buyers in equities in 4 out of the 8 trading session in April so far. While April has been a truncated trading month so far, a clearer picture should emerge in the coming days.
