Based on initial news flows, it looks like good news on the Monsoon front. For the third year in succession, SKYMET predicts a normal monsoon. This kind of 3 consecutive normal monsoons comes after nearly 25 years in India. For the year 2021, the monsoon is expected to be 103% of the long period average or LPA. In India, normal rainfall is considered to be normal if it falls between 96% and 104% of the long period average or LPA.

The estimate pertains to the monsoon months of June to September. In the last 2 years, Indian agriculture enjoyed full benefits of bumper Kharif and Rabi harvests. However, this is not the state’s official estimate as the Met department or the IMD gives its estimates around the end of April.
