Avenue Supermarts (owner of D-Mart brand) reported 41.6% higher net profits for Mar-20 quarter at Rs.271.28 crore. Total revenues for the Mar-20 quarter were up 23.6% at Rs.6256 crore. However, EBITDA margin compressed from 7.4% last year to 6.7% this year. The real impact would be felt in the June quarter as most of its stores have been under lockdown in the months of April and May. The company admitted that they are facing higher cost of operations, hardship allowance to frontline staff and higher store sanitation costs. This could impact the new store openings as construction activity may face a lag due to the non-availability of labour and material and the onset of monsoons.
