Siemens Healthineers, a unit of Siemens Ltd, will invest a sum of Rs.1300 crore to set up a brand new campus in the outskirts of Bengaluru. This will evolve into a research and development and manufacturing hub for medical technology solutions for emerging markets.

Siemens is among the world’s largest medical technology companies and it proposes to develop and manufacture products at the upcoming centre to address the challenge of availability and more importantly affordability in these specific third world markets.

The proposed campus near Bengaluru will have an area of 75,000 square metres andit would include housing, office buildings, research and development facilities, advanced therapies and computed tomography (CT) manufacturing facilities, testing centres etc

Meanwhile, Siemens will be adding 1,800 employees in the next few years to its existing workforce. Currently the company's R&D function employs 2,400 personnel but operates out of a leased facility in Electronic City, located at Hosur near Bengaluru.

What is unique about the facility is that it will be the fourth global innovation hub of Siemens. Currently, Siemens has three such hubs based out of Europe, US, and China. This centre will focus on automation, immersive technology, artificial intelligence, data analytics, internet of things among a host of other digital properties.
