The top traded options contracts are also the most liquid in the markets. Typically, the strikes of the Bank Nifty and Nifty have been among the most traded contracts on any day at any particular point of time.

In the above table, you need to understand the difference between premium turnover and the notional turnover. For options, it is the premium turnover that is considered. For example if the lot size of Nifty is 75 units and the spot Nifty is at 10,000, then notional value of a Nifty lot futures will be Rs.7.50 lakhs. If you buy a 10,000 Nifty call option at premium of Rs.100 then the notional value of the option contract will be Rs.7,57,500 (1100 x 75). However, the premium value of the contract will only be Rs.7500. The huge options volumes that you get to see every evening on the NSE website shows options volumes as notional volumes and not as premium values. As can be seen from the above table, the Bank Nifty options have emerged as the most active options as they are available for weekly and monthly options.
