It was again a strong week for the Nifty and the Sensex with the Sensex gaining nearly 862 points during the week. If you just take the components of the Nifty, then 8 out of 10 most valuable companies added Rs.125,229 crore in market cap. The gainers included companies like HDFC, TCS and Bajaj Finance for the week ended on 18 December.

Interestingly, the only two companies to see losses in market value during the week were Reliance Industries and Hindustan Unilever. The big gainers in the Nifty during the week included , HDFC gaining Rs.32,993 crore; TCS Rs.29,700; Bajaj Finance Rs.24,643 crore; HDFC Bank Rs.15,997 crore and Infosys Rs.11,377 crore.

Apart from the large gains made by the above stocks, we had smaller gains coming from stocks like Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank during the week. Among the losers HUL saw its market cap erode by Rs.9,868 crore and Reliance Industries by Rs.8,463 for the week as the pressure piled up in the week.
