PNB reported 50% higher revenues for the quarter ended Sep-20 at Rs.23,844 crore. Net profits were up by 26.66% to Rs.545 crore and this got restricted due to spurt in the provisioning for doubtful debts and COVID related losses at Rs.4,899 crore for the Sep-20 quarter.

Gross NPAs at an absolute level are still a worry for PNB as 13.4% is almost hard to sustain. Net NPAs at 4.75% means the ROA at 0.19% is way below competitive levels for an Indian bank. The capital adequacy at 12.84% leaves very little leeway to expand the loan book.
