Oil India suffered a production loss of 638 tonnes of crude oil and 0.46 million standard cubic metres per day of natural gas due to a blowout and a massive fire in its Assam field oil and gas field. It was noticed that natural gas mixed with condensate had suddenly started flowing uncontrollably from one of the wells in Tinsukia on May 27. This led to a massive blowout and fire on June 8, which killed two persons. As a result of the fire, many locals protested and OIL had to forcibly shut down 66 oil wells and 13 gas wells across Assam. This resulted in a production loss of 638 tonnes of crude oil. As per the latest update, the Ministry of Petroleum has already constituted a 3-member high-level panel to inquire into the incident and the panel will be headed by the director general, DGH. Apart from identifying the monetary value of the damage, the panel will also identify lapses in protocols and protocols and also suggest way to plug these gaps.
