Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has dwelt on the need to break the chain of the virus but had stopped short of announcing an extension. However, experts interpret this move as a sort of confirmation that the state may extend the lockdown till April 30 on the lines of Odisha and Punjab. The state will detail its complete lock down plan on 14 April. The total afflicted in Maharashtra stands at 1666 patients of which 1000 are from Mumbai itself. Currently the state government has tested 19000 people in Mumbai alone and is declaring containment zones and sealing them to contain the virus' spread. Mumbai has already made wearing of masks mandatory in public places. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all states and Union territories to ensure strict compliance of lock down measures and not permit any social or religious gathering or procession. Doctors from the Maharashtra Medical Council have begun door-to-door testing of nearly a million residents of Dharavi, one of the most crowded slums of Asia. While official word and modalities of the extended lockdown may be out on 14 April, the CM has already given the indication.
