The company has reported that post the opening up of factories, the bookings of Royal Enfield brand of motorcycles has already touched the pre-pandemic levels by the first week of June 2020. Even the MD Siddharth *** has confirmed that overall booking trend had gravitated close to normal on a run rate basis. Eicher even confirmed that they are not cancelling any of their long term investment plans. It was widely expected that the sales of premium motorcycles like Royal Enfield would remain subdued in the current fiscal as affordability of customers had taken a sharp hit. It may be recollected that former CEO of Ashok Leyland, Vinod Dasari had recently taken over as the CEO of Royal Enfield. Dasari confirmed that the strategy of opening studio stores in rural areas had actually worked as people strive to move away from public transport towards aspirational products. Eicher had a disappointing quarter with net profits falling by 44.2% in the Marr-20 quarter to Rs.304 crore, but that was along expected lines. Sales fell 18%.
