Fund data released by AMFI for the month of August had some interesting takeaways. Here are a few of these key highlights captured.

· Broadly, August 2020 was a disappointing month for mutual funds flows because equity funds showed outflows for the second month in succession.

· Outflows in Aug-20 were steeper at Rs.4000 crore compared to Rs.2480 crore that flowed out of equity funds in Jul-20.

· Within equity funds, the large cap funds and the multi cap funds accounted for a bulk of the outflows in the month.

· Debt funds saw outflows of Rs.9000 crore in the month of Aug-20 including the outflows from closed-ended

· Outflows were also pronounced in hybrid funds with overall outflows from mutual funds standing at Rs.14,500 crore in Aug-20.

· Even the SIP flows at Rs.7791 crore in Aug-20 remained below the Rs.8000 crore mark for the third month in succession.

The crux is that lump sum investing in equity funds is deeply negative as the actual bulk outflows in equity funds would be close to Rs.12,000 crore if you add the impact of SIPs.
