This is the most important difference between a demat account and trading account. The demat account will only give you a picture of your debits and credits to your demat account and not about profits and losses on transactions. That will only be available in your trading account. Additionally, intraday trades and F&O trades do not impact the DP account. Such information will only be available in the trading account. So that is the base. The trading account is a record of transactions of purchase and sale of shares. An intraday trade is typically executed in the trading account but it does not impact your demat account as there is no ownership created due to the net position being zero. Only the net equity positions in your trading account have an impact on your demat account.
