Firstly, the addition or deletion of names of BO account holders is not permitted after opening the account? The names of the account holders of a BO account cannot be changed. If any change has to be affected by addition or deletion, a new account has to be opened in the desired holding pattern (names) and then transfer the securities to the newly opened account. The old account may be closed, that is ok. The DP act does not permit any change in the ownership pattern of DP account once it is opened. You cannot even change the order of your joint owners after the DP account has been opened.
Your wife’s case is easier to handle and there is a set procedure for that. Yes. She is permitted to change her name post marriage and some very basic documentation will be required for the same. You need to show documentary proof of why you want the name changed in the demat account. Following documents can be of help. Marriage certificate or a copy of passport showing husband’s name or publication of name change in official gazette are all acceptable as valid proof of the reason for a name change. These can be submitted as documentary evidence to support your name change request.
