Yes, a newborn baby can be added in the health insurance policy however, not immediately after the birth but minimum after 90 days. One thing that varies in health insurance from company to company is that what expenses of an infant are covered and what is not. For example, you have to be sure whether vaccination expenses are covered or not. Also, when a new member is added to the health insurance policy, the insurance companies re-calculate your premium. As a result, your premium will increase.

There are two ways by which you can add your newborn baby in a health insurance policy:
During the year: If you want to add your baby in your existing policy during the year you have to do that offline since the online option is not available for the same. All you to do is to inform your agent about the add-on, give him necessary documents such as a photo of the baby, birth certificate, etc. and fill the prescribed form with relevant details.

At the time of renewal: Under this option, you can add members online or offline by providing necessary documents as mentioned above. The offline procedure is the same as stated above. And for the online procedure, you can visit your insurance company’s site.

Read the terms & conditions carefully laid down by your insurer, so as to know what are the exclusions and inclusion for your newborn baby’s health.
